Some of us might be familiar to see a hawk or birds perching on the trees, rocks and electric cables.
For me, catching sight of a hawk perched on the electric wire is a wonderful and magical moment. It is a kind of reminder of how all living things are connected and the incredible diversity of nature.
Moreover, there are several purposes of hawk perching on cable:
1) Resting point:
- cable could be secure place for resting
2) Hunting point:
- Hawk able to view surrounding areas to spot preys such as bunny, rodents and other small animals.
3) Spotting other source of foods
- A hawk may interest on garbage or discarded foods near neighborhood.
What do you think?

DeleteThey are beautiful birds of prey Tanza and I sometimes see them sitting on a fence post along the roads when I drive past with the bus. And sometimes also on high voltage cables but they know one way or another that there is no current on them then. And if the hawk is sitting with both pote on the high voltage cable the voltage is the same everywhere and they don't get a current shock. Hawks and other birds of prey spend a lot of time sitting on a stick or a branch. And some even 80% of the day! I assume it is a way to save energy, so that they have to hunt less. Because if they are hungry they will go hunting by themselves. You have added a nice photo. The hawk is sometimes also associated with courage, wisdom and vision. And they certainly have that. Many greetings Tine from Holland. And i like your website with all what you had posted already. I have standing this now in my reading list. hope you will follow me also by putting my url websites links to add. I have no other option because waht i had is not working anymore on blogspot.

We have one that hangs out on top of the light pole on a bustling street. You'd think he owns the place. I see more of them urbanized these days.
ReplyDeleteThese birds do hang around in the neighborhoods quite often here. Great shot!

I love watching Hawks. We have a lot of them at the farm and I am amazed at how they sit on the wires, looking for their next meal. Their vision is so great. I have seen theme sweep down, grab their prey and fly off. Beautiful!!

We had a nest of hawks in the back yard. It was interesting watching them and seeing how they trained their young! They can really fly so high up in the sky.

Here in Austria I sometimes see hawks sitting on cables or trees - especially in winter. Flying costs a lot of energy, and especially when it's cold or the bird is old, it tries to save energy by sitting on higher vantage points and looking for prey from there...
