Art is a piece of work based on internal hopes, wishes, dreams and feelings with outside world.
Piece of work may be created on chosen medium.
Since, it has medium, thus work of art could be seen (with naked eye), “smell” by nose and even be touched by our hands.
In addition, art is work of beauty too, thus, we can feel and interpret that piece of work.
As an example, since a painting could be touched (its medium), then, we may feel and interpret its beauty.
How?
Interpretation could be far cross time limit (hundred years ago or “travel” to the future time, unlimited and unseen very far time ahead).
My weakness in study art history is difficulty to understand the meaning of piece of art in context of history.
I need to read over and over to understand history context of some pieces of art.
What are examples of art pieces which are required to be interpreted in history context?

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI studied art history at university when I attended the architecture course, knowing the historical context of a work of art makes its interpretation easier!

So cool..although, I am sure history plays a big part of the emotion of the time. I think of the murals in Mexico. Many were of bloody massacres and of course the people who made a difference at that time. Of course, I would rather look at paintings of floral and commercial art.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely right....

Sounds like quite the undertaking to me. I was impressed with the Grant Wood exhibit I saw a few years back. I didn't realize how much he'd done for the Army when he was in the military how many of those artists at that time had worked painting in the military - camouflaging equipment. I don't know if there are any great new artists that came from our military these days during the past war, but it was a time everyone was working together.
ReplyDeleteneither do I.... I don't know the artists from military recent days....

Art is really subjective - what one likes another finds dis-interesting. I like to see Art but I do not have a discerning eye to appreciate art. The "girl in the red beret" is so colourful
