Is it Norm to Hire Underage Workers in Developing Countries? - part 1

In many cases, company stock prices relate to quality of product. The high quality may increase demand, thus rise price and stock.

In some points, customers see certain ethics or norms as part of brand value.

Apple ought to contract underage employees (fifteen-year-old) to work in any sections of its factories in some developing countries.

Teenagers employee may damage or destroy brand performance in the market and brand value in the minds of customers, hence may affect company (Apple) stock price.

No law gives permit for 15-year-old children to work full time during school days.

Under some requirement, teenagers may work several hours in school day, and part time during weekend.

All companies and organizations must comply with this law. If not, in this case is Apple will face legal actions.

However, there are some ethics or norms that are believed and practiced by society in daily life.

Stakeholders may look down (lower brand values) to companies against the social norms.

Since Apple produces iPhone in developing countries such as China, where crime and drug abuse rate is higher.

Is it reasonable to accept underage employees to work in its factory?

I would think 15 is border line, and certainly 15 year olds need to finish school. In many countries, children are worked much younger, just as in the UK and the US in the 19th and early 20th centuries, mill owners wanted to employ younger workers who could run under the machines. I remember meeting an NGO in Hanoi for homeless children, where kids are often trafficked to factories in the southern part of the country. She had many sad stories.

In our country under 16 children are required to be in school by law. No one can hire anyone under 16 years of age. I think it is a good law.

It is definitely not a comfortable situation. But you make an interesting point at the end of your post: what is the alternative for teenagers in that society if they don't have jobs?

It's such a controversial topic. I think that it's OK to give teenagers jobs even in the high brand companies. By the way some teenagers are very bright and so great with technology.

Creo que no es bueno contratar a los menores de edad, hasta que cumplen 18 años.
Desafurtunadamente en mi pais los menores de edad trabajan en todo, aunque por mi punto de vista sus mentes y cuerpo todavia no estan bien desarrolados para algunos tipos de trabajos.
En mi caso yo empezé a trabajar cuando tenia 20 años ^_^
