Paper
map sold in bookstores
I
just wonder, why many book stores sell “paper map,” since we may
get digital map from Google free of charge.
Printed
paper map out of date some times, while digital map is up to
date
and
validated regularly.
We experienced lost when we went to several cities few years ago, it was because street
name changed but not validated by paper map.
We
could use many programs or applications to find addresses easily now
days, few of them are:
-
Google map
-
GPS
-
Cell phone
Google
map
Google
digital map is interactive:
-
We can zoom in or
zoom out
-
We could search additional information during our traveling such
as
from nearby gas station to hotel, from rest area to public park
-
We also could find alternative routes.
Through
Google map, we may send our addresses or destination or directions
(from starting point to end point) to our cell phone.
Google
will follow our travel. She knows where are we or our position in the
map. If we get lost or confuse, we may ask her.
Road
Atlas printed in 2019
Since
paper map or road atlas still be printed in 2019, I assumed that
demand for paper map is exist now days.
I
saw the cheapest price is US$ 2.75 and highest price is US$ 9.92. The
map covers either a city or a country. The
map is for
traveling purposes.
Even
though the prices are quite reasonable, but we need to spend the
money to have it.
By
the way, which one you prefer: printed map or digital (google) map?
We use the phone's GPS. However on long road trips I actually like the old paper maps. We get them free through AAA or at state welcome centers.
ReplyDeleteWe have traveled a lot in the past year up and down the east coast. Paper maps came in handy so we didn't use up the data on the phone. Otherwise we love the GPS when we are trying to navigate a town or city.
I see.... yes, we may get paper map at state welcome centers.

Do You Like Paper Map Instead of Digital One?
DeleteIt's been a while since I had to use a map, and I did use Google maps on my tablet. Paper maps are fine, but I also like digital.
ReplyDeleteI like how you can get a street view with the digital. Like Miss Val said, you have to be careful not to burn up your battery when using the digital/hand-held though.
I see.... yes, indeed.....

DeleteI am definitely of the generation that prefers a paper map. There is a lot of pleasure to be derived from poring over one, and you get an immediate sense of where different places and landscape features lie in relation to each other.

I've seen paper maps in gas stations here and have also wondered if people still use them. I guess it's more for old-school people who don't have GPS system or don't have data plans on their phone.

I guess not everyone has a SatNav. I don't in my car, but then it is a basic but lovable Fiat.

Paper is number 1, climate control.

My husband and I use both. When planning trips we use digital but often when traveling there's no internet service and a paper map is a must.

The GPS units in our cars are very helpful to help us navigate via the shortest route, but I don't think we'll ever give up our paper maps. My hubby is a map guy from way back, and I'm a little surprised he agreed to use a GPS at all. (He doesn't always take the GPS's "advise," though. HA!) Me? I can probably get lost with equal skill, whether I'm using a map or GPS. :)

I actually use both as recently when traveling some areas don't always have a good internet so the paper map comes in handy.

DeleteI prefer paper. I use electronic, too. But when taking trips I always throw in maps/atlas so I can explore around the areas I am going. As someone who loves the outdoors, I would never venture out into the mountains or on the water wtihout proper maps or charts.

I use both. Paper ones give more flexibility and can be used when there is no signal. They can also be torn up and used in collage when they are no longer in date.
